My studying style

I have study skills class in my college, UIC.
Today, our teacher gave us questionnaires about study habits and study environment analysis. The goal of these questionnaires are to find out about what are our studying habits and the best environment for us to study.

For the study habits questionnaire, I found out that my habits are not fully good. My answers are directing me to being a student who regularly takes notes and keep it organized.
But i rarely study after class routinely and recite to myself at the end of each section of the chapter.
The most important thing that i found out is that i am a slow learner. I always need a long time to organize the practice questions for exams.

For the study environment analysis, the place that may provide me the best environment for studying is my bedroom. There are a lot of distractions such as TV, computer and laptop which means access to internet, a comfortable bed, etc. But my bedroom has lighting, studying table and chair that is conductive to studying. The temperature is also comfortable and people rarely interrupt me here. Although those may sound like the best environment to relax or being a potato couch, I study well when i am relaxed.

So, i guess the questionnaires are true.

That'd be all for now ;)

Learning Style

Learning styles are ways of learning, in which these styles help people in their studies. Knowing your own learning style and applying it is a great help in our studies. So when a person learns best with a particular style, that doesn't mean that style will be perfect for everyone.

There are 3 types of learning styles. They are Visual, Auditory and Tactile/Kinesthetic Learners.

I am a visual learner. Visual learners are those who learn through seeing.
These are the characteristics of a visual learner:
  • Reader/ observer
  • Benefits from diagrams, charts, pictures, films and written directions
  • Values to-do lists, written notes
  • Easily visualize objects
  • Daydreams a lot
  • Visualize things when thinking
I enjoy drawing. Visualizing things are kind of my thing, i usually visualize something when i think of it. I often make to-do lists and daydreamed during lessons. This makes me a visual learner. I knew it and it helps me as diagrams and pictures help me to understand things better. I also understand better by seeing demonstrations.
As i said, visualizing are my thing. I do it when i am communicating so that i can interpret the things that they said in my mind better. Lectures bore me to death, but visualizing what the lecturers tell keeps me in being attentive. I don't really like to copy notes but i always do, in bullet lists.
